Gum disease can cause damage to the tissues of the jawbone and gums. It is also the leading cause of adult tooth loss and can be dangerous to your overall well being.
Plaque buildup and bacteria can diminish the bond between the teeth and gums, resulting in periodontal pockets. When the pockets become infected, it becomes periodontal disease.
Dental intervention can help prevent periodontal disease from becoming a catalyst to serious health issues, such as alveolar atrophy or tooth loss. Periodontal disease is a chronic condition that may not always present symptoms in the early stages, and it does not go away without intervention.
